I think most people tend to think symmetry as perfection, as the standard of beauty. And I suppose in many ways that holds for me as well. But yesterday I saw some of the most beautiful snow crystals I've ever seen, and they were anything but symmetrical. The unexpected ways they branched out, and the shapes they made were just incredible! Don't believe me? See for yourself.

One of a Kind
I spent the afternoon photographing snowflakes. I love to do this. I don't know why. It's somehow therapeutic and calming to me, like gardening or hunting for rocks on the beach. And I am always left in awe of the little things in life that can be so beautiful, if I just take a minute to look for them.
