Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver is a participant on this years Dancing With The Stars show. LOL. So funny. I don't watch the show, but I saw his cha-cha on YouTube and was pretty impressed. Check it out and see for yourself by clicking on the image!

An Interesting Question

What do you think is the most astounding fact about the universe? I can think of all kinds of cool facts, but the "most" astounding one? That's tough. But not for everybody. Neil deGrasse Tyson was recently asked and, at least in my opinion, his answer lived up to it's alpha status among astounding truths. I especially like the part where he says that "...Many people feel small, because they are small and the universe is big, but I feel big." That is exactly how I feel when I think about myself in the cosmos. If you have three minutes, I highly recommend you take a look at the video (click on the image above for the link). It might just improve your day. No need to thank me;)

Afterward (if you want) take a minute to think about what the most astounding thing in the universe is to you, and after that maybe take an extra minute or two to really enjoy it;)

Do Your Part: Recycle Underwear

Do you wish you could be living more green? Is recycling newspapers and drinking out of reusable water bottles just not enough action for your tree hugging aspirations? You can help by recycling men's underwear to make your very own trendy sports bra's! Technically it's reusing/re-purposing, but whatever. Not only will you save money by not paying another cent for those expensive workout bras, you will also be helping out Mother Earth by diverting thousands of pairs of tighty-whities that would ultimately end up in a landfill! It's a glorious win-win! 

And for all you guys out there who are horrible at gift giving, look no further. What could be easier than creating that special gift for that special somebody out of something already lying around your house? In addition all you need is a pair of scissors and a bit of patience and you will have all the tools necessary to make a unique gift that no woman will ever forget! I mean who wouldn't like a home-made present that helps out the environment as well?

Siphonophores

I am reading a really interesting book called The Universe Below by William Broad. It was a random thrift store find, but totally worth the $1.50 I paid for it.
Anyway, one of the strange creatures that I discovered on my undersea travels are things called a siphonophores. I am fairly versed in at least the basic genera of the oceans, but when I came across these guys I had no idea anything like them even existed, and they are so weird and cool I just had to share!
The most well known siphonophores are Portugese Man-O-War (I thought they were a kind of jelly fish, and while they are related, they aren't the same thing), that float on the surface of the water and sting tourists as they wade in the ocean on vacation. But most siphonophores live in the middle of the water column, eating whatever happens to get in their path. They are gelatinous, and generally clear to opaque white. Most of them bioluminesce in dark water, some even flash red (in addition to the normal blue and green) to attract fish. Some are as long as 40 meters, and may have several stomachs and hundreds of thread-like tentacles trailing behind trolling for snacks.While they generally appear as one organism, usually they are a floating colony of many individuals, all of which were produced by the same fertilized egg.

In Memory of Georgia

I was talking to my little brother yesterday ( the one in Alaska) and learned that one of the puppies, Georgia, got her chain tangled with one of her siblings, and died. It made me so sad. And I've been thinking about her all morning. I don't know how I got so attached to those dogs in such a short time but I did. My favorite memory of Georgia and the other puppies is when we took them on a walk and they were playing together in the snow. The Georgia I knew (albeit briefly) was a happy little puffball of energy, that loved to play with her brother and sisters, and in her spare time enjoyed eating mittens and pulling cameras out of peoples pockets.  I made a little video of her playing in the snow with her siblings when I was in Alaska, and it is how I'll always remember her. I'll miss you Georgia girl!

Thats....Disgusting.

Not that any commercial about diapers is expected to be really appealing, but this commercial by Luvs is really gross, even for a cartoon.  I mean, is this a legitimate concern parents these days are facing? What in gods name they feeding their children that is causing them to have a "blowout"?  It certainly doesn't sound like something a healthy baby should be doing. And why is this (above) kid so happy? If my midsection was engulfed in an inner tube of poop I don't think I'd be too stoked about it. Nor would I be smiling or raising my arms in the victory position. It's just so gnarly. Maybe the parents shouldn't stuff their babies until they are about to pop and stick to normal diapers? Just think of all the couples out there who after seeing this will decide not to have kids. I saw it as an advertisement while watching Cosmos on my computer.)
