Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnians

Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnians is the oldest church in all of France. It is located just on the edge of  the big open square in Metz. It's not much to look at, especially if you compare it to the cathedrals, but I thought it was really beautiful in a simple, understated kind of way. And unlike the giant churches and cathedrals, it's not at all creepy inside. It was pretty and peaceful, and had the kind of feel that I could really go for in home. Besides, I like that you can see it's history in the walls. There are traces of old doors inside traced of older doors and windows that have been filled in or bricked over. It gives the place a mysterious aspect, like there could be ancient clues to medieval treasures long forgotten hidden behind the stones. (If it was a woman it would be a mix between Queen Guinevere and Nancy Drew;)
Additionally the Gregorian chant was invented here (and not by Pope Gregor as most people think!) Saint Pierre-aux-Nonnian is a gem, and if any of you ever go to Metz you should visit it! (As a side note I believe it is only open on Sunday afternoons, and for special concerts and events.)
